Our Land Rover

Looking for a Land Rover ? - as
many will know its easy - there are many
to
choose from.But . . . . what happens when you want a Land Rover
thats
just that little bit different, that little bit older, that little bit
more
special and above all one that can be improved
and maintained ?
So, the challenge was on and Allabout4x4 needed to replace their Series
Land Rover. What with was another question, running a Land Rover
company
and being owner enthusiasts too the search was on. We decided
on a LWB
but after many months of looking it was unlikely the right
vehicle
could be found until one afternoon the Series 2 club
forum
offered
something that caught our eye . . . .
After an exhaustive series of telepone calls and an extremely long
drive home
the Land Rover Series 2a finally came to rest in Birmingham
with Allabout4x4.
Nice. I'm glad we had taken our time. Original in
every respect bar a few
interceptions but nevertheless a cracking
Landy.
So there she is - Built 1964, BNF 102B, Series 2A, 88"
Petrol truck cab.
(Previously known as WRG 607)
No sooner returning home what was
that smell of petrol?
Every Land Rover seems to be different and this one is no exception !
After driving daily a list of things "to do" has sprung into action -
more of that later ! First stop then a service kit

It is really clean in there and everything looks in fair condition.
Replacement of the ignition coil, spark plugs, points, ignition leads
and
condensor will do no harm all the same, only thing left to do is an oil
and
filter change but as the front crank seal is leaking that
can be repaired at the same time. It does puff out smoke on start-up
which does point to wear of the cylinder head but unleaded seats
and a decoke can be done at a later stage.
There's that
petrol smell again . . . . .
I have to be honest this Land Rover is growing on me !
It goes like a rocket or at least as quick as I can remember a Series
Land Rover ever going. I have been investigating the fresh fuel
smell that has been bothering me since day one, hey presto and the
leak from the Solex carburetor is cured at the union joint.

Looking further into the vehicles additional features has revealed
a few extras that look very much as though they were added at the
factory. I would like to research the vehicle when time allows but so
far it seems to have had:
An eight blade fan
Screen washers and bottle
Fire extinguisher
Smiths round heater
Combined oil pressure/water temp gauge
If anyone can shed any light or would like to share any information
about the optional extra's fitted to our vehicle, please feel free to
contact us within the
website or email:

So what's next on the list ? . . . . . .
